A few thoughts on our current assignment:

Thank you all for liking the mock-up. and no, Toshu, I have not worked for a publisher before. I wish! I just looked at several books trying to copy the format, without giving the CIP info, which is why I added the little “available upon request” since I had seen that before.

An added instruction was posted today, “Your A1 submission must include at least 6 of the 8 areas of bibliographic description.” We may find that we need to add more details to the fictitious book. I like the idea of all working on the cataloging and comparing. Part of the assignment is to “Include relevant rules from AACR2” which I know I’d have difficulty with. This assignment is due next Friday, Sept. 19 so we should have our individual work done before then, Monday? Or this Friday?

Adding other information such as from spine, index, etc., might not be allowed. In real life you would have the book in hand instead of just these few parts. Yes, and how would we catalog the number of pages, size etc. Amber's catalog samples are great! We should ask for clarification if some of this info can be included. Tomorrow’s Elluminate meeting will be a chance – so I’ll keep it in mind.

More on all else later – it’s been a rough day…sorry.
Pamela

Thank for additional information of the book

Amber, Thank you for the additional information about the book. It's great!!
I will keep working on the record.
I cataloged many Chinese DVDs as well.
I would like to do the presentation during the weekend , if that is possible.
I will ask my supervisor about the possibility of an interview.
Shall we report by e-mail to Dr. Bob that we will do DVD as Non-print manifestation for assignment 5?
Thank you.

Assignment 1

Hi:

Thank you Toshu for such detailed planning on our assignments. I’m willing to work with everyone here for the remaining assignments in this class. I think working in groups could help us generate more ideas and produce better works together.

Pam, thank you so much for such wonderful job on creating the t.p and verso. That picture looks so nice. With these information in hand, it’ll be easy for us to catalog this “fake” book.

Let me be creative here and come up with some ideas to answer some of Toshu’s questions:

Pagination: 4, 260 p. : ǂb ill. (some col.) ; ǂc 24 in.

Includes bibliographical references (p. 258-260) and index.

Series title: Garden Series ; v.18 (traceable)

1st edition

Yes. Sure. I can check with my supervisor once we finish cataloging this book.

Assignment 5
I would like to do DVD as well. I recently catalog many Chinese DVDs at work and I would be interested to learn more about DVD cataloging. Our department has a brief manual about cataloging DVD. I’ll dig it out later and share with everyone.

As for the presentation date, I realized Nov. 14 or 21 are all on a weekday. Don’t we all have to work? Prof. Ellett said weekend dates are available too. Would you all like to select a weekend date? Would that be easier for everyone?
