My assignment 2

Sorry I've been sick all day and wasn't able to check my email until now.

I have send out my assignment 2 for everyone to review. My answers are pretty much the same as everyone else. I noticed we do have some differences in a couple questions.

#3 - I agree with Pamela. I thought we use the chief source as the main entry.

#4 - Is it ‡q (Daryl Lynn) or ‡q (Daryl)? I'm not quite sure about this one. And I think we need to add the birth year for all entries.

#5 - I just followed the form on the t.p. and my answer is: Parkerson, P.C. $q (Philip Castledine), $d 1947-

#8 - Yes I would add another 410 to add the "and."

#9-I'm not really sure about this one. I just use the format on the t.p. then add another 410 entry to add the Program.

#11-I just followed the same format as #12 and put Environmental Law Society (University of Vermont) on 110 and put University of Vermont on front in 410.

#14-I'm not sure if we need to add the birth year since the info didn't appear on t.p.

Yes. I also found $10-14 on OCLC. It is weird that we have those ready-made authority records in this practice assignment.

Okay, I am feeling better about my answers now. Yes, some of these are in OCLC which is odd since Dr. Ellett said he made these up so we couldn't find them and just copy the answers....

I'm going to email my document over now. I did find my answer to the fixed field NAME - they should be A so I've corrected those. I also found some of my fixed field REF STATUS wasn't corrected coded for when using 4xx fields. So I fixed that.

#11 and #12 I feel the most shaky on. Any thoughts?

Personal Names

Hi all, I have today off to concentrate on homework. So far I've focused on the personal names.

Yes, the main entry needs to come first from an authorized source, such as the Title page. Also not always is the fullest form of the name the one that is most commonly used. I know #4 has been discussed in the WIKI but I'm still not sure about that one, if the other 400's are necessary. In the ppt for personal names, slide 159 + mentioned adding other variant forms only if in same source and if adding information. So I don't know if both of the 400's are necessary for #4.

My other question is about fixed fields. Does anyone know about the Name field? A for Differentiated and B for Undifferentiated. Aren't they all A? Or is it only when there's a date as well? I've gone with the later, but I don't think it's right.

Also, I had to clean up the records from the file Dr. Bob gave us. The formatting looked messy and I had a hard time seeing what was there, especially for the fixed fields.

After the elluminate session last night

Hi

How was the elluminate session last night? We will select a library for assign. 6.
I will be able to interview my supervior ( a head of cataloging department).

I noticed the 1xx has to come from T.P. So, I will revise my work.

Are we dividing our work?
#1-#4?
#5-#7?
#8-#10?
#11-#14?

But, I found #10 through #14 from OCLC authority records (corporate names & #14 personal name)

So, we might be able to concentrate on #2-#9 (except #4).
