Hi Everyone:
To answer some of Pamela’s questions and also point out some differences in all of our records, I’ll go over each field one by one again:
1. Fixed fields- We need to have a “b” in Cont. to reflect the bibliography.
-For Audience, do we leave it blank since this is a book that can be read by anyone?
Dr. Ellett just responded in Bb that ELvl should be blank, and Srce should be c for pcc record.
2. 040- I believe 040 usually shows up as the first field before any field.
3.
4. 082 – So according to Toshu, we agree to use this 635.967109033 as our Dewey number, right? How about the cutter number? I downloaded the Dewey cutter program and found out the cutter number for Tilston should be .T469. So our Dewey call number is 635.967109033 ǂa .T469 2005, is this correct?
5. 245 – If illustrator information is not listed on t.p. (the chief source of information), then we need to add brackets around the illustrator info.
-Yes, use 12 as the indicators.
-Make sure the first indicator is 1 since 245 is not the main entry here.
6. 260 – Yes I believe we need to use c2005 since it’s a copyright date.
7. 300- Toshu, have you confirmed about the size with your supervisor yet? I think as long we can determine which is the width and which is the length, then we can decide if we keep both sizes or just one.
-For ill, I’ve only seen people simply use “ill.” Not too many people include detailed descriptions of the illustration. But I guess it would be a cataloger’s choice.
-I noticed we have the wrong page numbers in our mock-up t.p. Since bibliography extends to p. 268, there really should be 268 p., not 260 p.
-Make sure there are no indicators in 300.
8. 440- I did not include no. before 5 because we only have the number “5” on t.p. verso.
9. 500- I guess the note is totally up to us. Since everyone is adding the note, I’ll add mine as well.
10. 700- Make sure there are no periods at the end.
11. For the rules, I thought Dr. Ellett indicated to include the rules in the assignment details. But since I have never taken his class before, so I’m not sure how he will grade this assignment. I’ll include the rules just in case.
For any questions about each MARC fields, you can always click here: http://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/fixedfield/audn.shtm. I found out a lot about indicators and information about each field from this website.
This assignment is due this Friday (9/19). Do we each turn in our individual work again like last time?
