Hello, I went over our differences and here's what I came up with - and some questions.....
Fixed Fields:
Elvl – pg will take out so leave blank (to match)
Orig – pg add code “s” (to match)
Freq – pg add code “u” (to match)
Ctry – if using Baltimore, MD for publisher info/wouldn’t Ctry be mdu? Why Ontario?
006 – I used the format from the previous class – how did you get your formating? Which is correct?
007 – is $f (subfield F) necessary if no sound – for leaving blank?
040 – missing on Toshu’s – shouldn’t we have this field?
050 – should be 090 or vice versa, does it matter? We should use the same field#
Also we have different LCC numbers. Probably relates to 650 (below)
092 – Dewey number – we are skipping this, right?
245 - $b do we want to have the info – “An international collaboration in support of the Human Genome Project” - or do we put into a second 246 field. What is the rationale for either?
Also $b is [website] necessary for this resource ?
260 – Do we want to use 1990 or 1996 as the beginning date? It states under the Mission Statement on the “about” page that it began in 1990 and the Hospital for Sick Children took over in 1996. The first archived “what’s new” was listed as 1996.
362 – same as above.
Note on field 362 & 260 $c – from OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards
“Follow these guidelines for entering dates for integrating resources:
When no date information is present, omit field 260 subfield ‡ c and record the approximate date in field 362 subfield ‡a, with the first indicator value 1.
362 1 Began in 1990s.
Would this apply to our dates? We do have two dates, just nothing specific on when it went online.
5xx notes – order – I verified the order of notes This is correct – nature & scope (516) , then the mode of access & sys requirements (538) Then source of title proper (500). I’ve had points taken off for wrong order of notes before.
538 – I would suggest we do add the System requirements – another place I’ve had points taken off for not having. The Netscape note was listed on two pages as a minimum requirement.
650 – I have the more specific Human genome – Toshu & Amber with just genome - shouldn’t we go with the more specific? It is also mentioned in the “Mission Statement” portion – it sounds like the database is human genome. Or is it more broad? Also relates to why we have different LCC numbers.
710 – It is Johns – plural.
710 – for Hospital… shouldn’t we have $b Bioinformatics Supercomputing Centre – it was mentioned on the “contact information” page and on the “about” page – Mission statement. Also listed in the authorities file too.
