more on comparison

Sorry, I didn't get Natalie's email - so working off the three versions - Natalie you and Amber aren't feeling well, I hope you both get well soon!! I always find school work more challenging when sick.

Comparisons: Toshu - I hope I was looking at your right version. I went from the last email.
First Fixed Fields: We are nearly the same except two fields: Auth Status & Ref Status. We may be not going 100% according to true cataloging as some of these would need to be reviewed....I think Dr. Ellett mentioned this in Sept. 23's class.
Don't we need to fill in the Auth Status field? If so then they should all be A for "fully established heading". I thought this was addressed somewhere, other than the ppt slides, but I cannot find it, maybe also in the class.
Ref Status: If there is a 4xx then this needs to be A - not B. In the class BB Dr. Ellett had addressed this.
Other than the Fixed fields here’s our differences.

#1: Toshu - you seem to have a different 670. Maybe you took that from the WIKI which Dr. Ellett said he mistakenly had a different 670.

#3: Toshu - the tp does have Joseph C Melton. The question then is do we add the subfield Q and delete the extra 400? Or does the 400 stay because that came from a different source? I think the latter would be accurate, but I'm not sure.

#4: I am also confused about the subfield Q - do we need to spell out both names, or just the one initialed? According to Toshu's post at 12:42 that we would need to have the cross-ref. Also, does the ordering of the 400's matter? We have the same but in different order. I just went in order by how it appeared in the 670.

#6: Pam has as 410 starting as Patrick, Toshu and Amber has Pat - I got mine from the second mention. Wouldn't this need to be spelled out?

#8: I took out the Inc. because Dr. Ellett specifically mentioned this that it would not be needed since the series of names implies coporateness. I suggest we do remove the inc. Also Dr. Ellett said that you must have that comma before the “and” spelled out in 410. These two things he mentioned in Tue's Sept 30 class.

#9: I think the (Program) was also because of what was mentioned in the Sept 30 class. I also saw something about this one in the ppt slides, but I don't remember where. I also compared to some records on OCLC and they don't have the added 410. I'll have to search again for this one.

#11: Wouldn't the 110 have the law society first? Again, I saw slides on this - discussing the government and jurisdiction where it said:
1xx $a Government agency (Jurisdiction)
4xx $a Jurisdiction. $b Government agency
If we need to I'll find the reference.

#12: I was lost on this one. Maybe we should just follow the same as #11

#13: all same, except Toshu’s has Alabama spelled out in the 110 - it should be abbreviated.

#14: All match except Amber didn't but the birth date in - since it was given it should be added.

As far as straight copying from OCLC with ARN number I would want to be cautious with this. Dr. Ellett stated he made these up, although evidently not all of them, because he did not want us to copy.

Okay, where do we go from here? We’re getting close despite this long post! And we need to sew it up and turn in tomorrow. I did repeat some of Toshu’s post. Sorry! How do we reconcile?
