-Does your department provide any training or continuing education on the following areas:
- RDA
- FRBR
- MARC holdings format
- Social networking
- Implementation of a new integrated library system and its various components,
- mentioned in the case study of one library
- Training in institutional repository work
- Foreign language cataloging, particularly in non-roman scripts
- Cataloging of non-books and e-resources
- Familiarity with XML (Extensible Markup Language), database tools and design, and
- Web-oriented service architecture
-With the implementation of RDA rules, what kind of changes will affect your cataloging department? Are your staffs comfortable about these upcoming changes?
-Do your staffs use as many new online cataloging enhancements as possible, such as federated searching, ,e-serial management products, and creating next generation catalogs for the learning needs of present and future academic students?
-Does your department get cataloging staffs involved with digital projects?
-Does your library have digital collections?
-How does your library prepare your staffs for the changes in the Library of Congress cataloging standards?
-Many libraries are trying to cut costs in technical services by doing more with less, such as reduce staff over time, or “dumbing down” cataloging process to make it go faster. Does your department face the same kind of budget issues?
-Does your library educate the patrons and librarians about the benefits of controlled subject and classification access?
